The Jardin Rosa Mir Welcomes Visitors from April to October

The Rosa Mir Garden is an unusual Lyon monument located in the 4th district, open seasonally each year.

The Jardin Rosa Mir (87 Grande Rue de la Croix-Rousse) reopened on April 7 and will welcome visitors through October 27 of this year.

The garden is the artistic work of a mason named Jules Senis Mir, who spent twenty years fashioning his monument after his vision, from 1957 to 1977.

The Jardin Rosa Mir is a seasonal garden open to the public on Saturday afternoons.

An untaught artist, Mir decided to create his garden after a brush with throat cancer left him hospitalized for a number of months. He drew no plans, and gathered materials from rivers, building sites, and most importantly from friends who brought seashells from places visited on their travels.

It is a curiosity of Lyon, housed in a normally private courtyard located behind the apartment where Mir lived with his family.

This piece of amateur architecture houses thousands of plants, ranging from roses and iris to cacti and succulents. During the 2018 season it is open every Saturday from 2-6 p.m. Visits are free, with a maximum of 15 people in the garden at a time.

Guided visits are also available on certain days. The cost is €6 per person, to reserve online or at 04 72 69 47 78.
