The Ink Factory Brings Together 140 International Artists for a Tattoo Convention
The first edition of The Ink Factory will be held at La Sucrière (49-50 quai Rambaud) in the Confluence district of Lyon on April 13-15.
Tattoo artists will be on hand to give tattoos and explain different styles and techniques.
Among the 140 talented artists will be famous French tattooer Tin-Tin, alongside international artists like American Ivanka Collado, Australia’s Broderick Parkinson, Canada’s Jay Marceau and Paul Tougas, and New Zealander Mitchell Coen among many others.
The Ink Factory, Promoting the Art of Tattooing
The Ink Factory was designed by Teodor Milev, of 681 Tattoos in Lyon. Milev, originally from Bulgaria, has resided in France for 14 years and seen tattoos go from taboo to ubiquitous.
As they become more popular, The Ink Factory provides an opportunity to remind people that tattoos are not just a product, but an art. The convention also seeks to destigmatize tattoos as a negative trait and instead focus on the artistic vision that goes into them.
The Ink Factory is a place for both newcomers and people already passionate about tattoos. The goal is to create an environment where everyone feels welcome, instead of intimidated or scared.
681 Tattoos has permanent tattoo artists in the shop but also regularly invites guest artists to come exchange ideas and techniques.
The Ink Factory will build on this concept, prioritizing artists who have taken the necessary time, often through apprenticeships with experienced artists, to develop their art.
More Than Just a Place to Get Tattooed
The convention will showcase all styles of tattooing, from neo-traditional, to Japanese-style, to realism in both color and black and white.
Attendees can be tattooed by artists offering walk-in sessions or can reserve a spot with an artist through the online sign-up, now open on the website.
In addition to the tattoos, the Ink Factory will have expositions on Japanese tattooing and the work of celebrated Lyon tattoo artist and illustrator Jean-Luc Navette, tattoo contests for the best tattoos done during the convention in each category, artwork for sale, concerts from Lyonnais musicians, and food trucks.
