On International Independent Record Store Day, Lyon Showcases its Vinyl History

This is the 8th edition of “Disquaire Day,” which brings together Lyon’s local record shops to celebrate the lost art.

This Saturday, April 21, Lyon’s record shops will take part in the 8th annual Disquaire Day, a celebration of vinyl records and the dedicated stores that sell them. Doors open at 10 a.m.

Disquaire Day, or in English, Record Store Day, began in the United States in 2008 and has now grown to an international event. The day is organized in support of independent record stores, who believe in vinyl as a key part of musical diversity.

Independent Record Store Day will be taking over “disquaires” across the city on April 21.

Lyon is one of the most popular places for record stores in France, with over 10 of them in the 1st arrondissement alone.

On Disquaire Day, record enthusiasts can head to participating record stores to find limited edition vinyls from around the world and see live DJ sets, showcases, and concerts.

The Part Dieu Municipal Library, meanwhile, will be showcasing part of their collection of 120,000 records from the 1920s to today at participating disquaire Sofa Records (7 rue d’Algerie, Lyon 1).

The showcase will feature a preview of the library’s May 2019 exhibition on Lyon in the 80s, when the city was at the forefront of rock and new wave music.

In addition to Sofa Records, other 1st arrondissement participants are Chez Emile Records, Dangerhouse, Kraspek Myzik, Original Watts, and Tiki Vinyl Store. They are joined by Groovedge Records Store and Ric Vintage Records Shop in the 4th, Livity Records in the 5th, and Gibert Joseph in the 2nd and Vaulx-en-Velin.
