Run In” has been a great way for people around France to discover (or rediscover) the country’s most beautiful cities since 2013. This running festival takes place every year in Lyon, Marseille, Mont Saint-Michel and Reims. It is accessible to all types of runners with its multiple courses.

Run in Lyon on October 6th and 7th: from Quai Tilsitt to Place Bellecour

This time around, Run in Lyon will be on October 7th 2018 and all the roads will be closed off so that you can run safely and take in the culture at your own rhythm.

Runners can participate in any of the 4 courses: the 10 km race, half-marathon, marathon or, starting this year, the relay marathon.

The 10 km run is the least intense course, perfect for those of you who want to check out the main urban and historical sights. From Quai Tilsitt, you go up to the Music Conservatory, then Vaise, to go back down towards Tube Mode Doux de la Croix Rousse, Place des Terreaux and end at Place Bellecour.

Lyon Marathon is the ultimate challenge

The half-marathon takes place along the water, following the Rhône and the Saône. It has the same starting and arrival points but this race goes up to Paul Bocuse bridge before heading back.

The marathon is the ultimate challenge: 42.195 km for the perfect city tour. It has the same route as the half-marathon, with an added run around the famous Parc de la Tête d’Or, then down to the Stade de Gerland, to end the race higher up, at Place Bellecour, once again.

The newest element added to Run in Lyon is the relay race. This year, you’ll be able to sign up in teams and divide the marathon route into 3 parts. The 1st distance is 21 km (from Quai Tilsitt to Parc de la Tête d’Or), the 2nd is 13 km (from Parc de la Tête d’Or to Stade de Gerland) and the third and final part is 8 km long (Stade de Gerland to Place Bellecour).

There will therefore be two lanes: marathon runners to the left and relay runners to the right. Registration for relay teams start with the leader signing up on the Time To platform, choosing a team name and password, after which the other two teammates can register.

Lyon small marathon for kids

The quicker you sign up for the relay marathon, the cheaper it is: 90 euros for the first 100 teams, then it goes up to 99 euros! This includes everything the website offers, as well as refreshments and medals at the end of the race, plus a surprise gift.

Some of you may have mini runners in the family: not to worry, there’s even a race for children! Pitch Marathoon’s is a small marathon for 5 to 10-year-olds around Place Bellecour, on Saturday October 6th. The 5 to 7-year-old, 1.2 km race starts at 3 PM while the 8 to 10 year-old, 2.4 km race starts at 3:30. Entertainment, activities, medals and snacks are all there for your children’s amusement.

Registration prices vary from 20 to 105 euros on the Time To platform. The itineraries and the results of the races are posted on their website.

The Run in Lyon website offers many more extensive details as well as helpful sections, such as a “to-do” list before the race, training plans and practical guides, an app which connects to your Time To account and information on free training sessions!

Don’t take my word for it: you can check it our for yourself, as the website has a fully operational English version.
