The 2018 Lyon Free Bike includes new courses and races to test out
Discover Lyon by bike with Lyon Free Bike, a weekend of festivities and races for all levels on September 8 and 9.
Lyon Free Bike offers five different courses for anyone to try from 23 to 60 kilometers, concentrated in the center of Lyon, along the banks of the river, through the traboules and secret passageways, and through the hills.
This year, the 60km XL option goes all the way out to the Monts d’Or for the first time in Lyon Free Bike’s history.
Other new additions include the solidarity event, “Rouler pour elles,” a 23km course whose €8 ticket prices goes towards cancer research and prevention, and the 1st edition of Lyon Cyber Bike, which uses technology and electrostimulation to support handicapped athletes.
September 8 features a partner village at the Parc de Gerland, including a kids’ session to help them outgrow their training wheels and the Free Race, a two-person relay around a one-kilometer loop. There are also demonstrations and competitions from the Cyber Bike athletes.
The Free Bike races kick off on September 9, starting at 7:30 a.m. with the XL course and ending with “Rouler pour elles” at 10. The village is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 8 and from 6:30 a.m. on September 9.
