Lyon BD Festival Takes Over the City Center June 9 and 10

The Lyon BD Festival returns to showcase Lyon’s connection to the growing art


One of the European capitals of bande déssinée will host artists from around the world to show off their talents and share the art with the public.


Lyon’s city center will be taken over on June 9 and 10 by the 13th annual Lyon BD Festival for a weekend of meet-and-greets, shows, workshops and more.

The 2018 Lyon BD Festival includes a line-up of over 250 local and international authors, 170 events, and 50 locations across the city.

The main events take place over the weekend at Place des Terreaux and Hôtel de Ville, Fnac Bellecour, the Comédie Odéon, and the Opéra de Lyon. “Off” events will be happening across the city from June 1st to 30th.

Tickets to the festival also get you in to the BD festival’s partner museums: the Musée d’Art Contemporain, the Musée Lugdunum, and the Musée Malartre.

On the program at performances, meet-and-greets, workshops, and expos including Julie Rocheleau’s exposition at the macLYON, “Batman Par Marini” at the Opera, and “Une Virée avec Flao” at the automobile museum.

Meanwhile on Saturday, join BDers Mathieu Bertrand and Anjale for “Battle Impro BD,” where the audience controls what happens on stage. Then on Sunday, check out Le Big’s Funk Orchestra bringing a new vibe to the courtyard of Hôtel de Ville.

There are also children’s events, including BD workshops where young artists can learn the art of BD, a “Mega Fresque” at Hôtel de Ville that children can help color in, and “Jouez avec Choupie,” where kids can invent the famous pup’s next adventure.
