With temperatures set to soar, lots of outdoor activities are open to you here in Lyon this summer. For example, Acordanse is an outdoor dance festival taking place from 3rd-4th July in Lyon’s 8th arrondissement.
In July, the city of Lyon’s ‘Fêtons l’été’ (celebrate summer) programme will be in full swing, bringing with it lots of exciting events. ‘Fêtons l’été’ encourages tourists and expats to explore parts of Lyon that are a bit off the beaten track.
Our selection of summer festivals
Here’s a short selection of festivals going on this July in places you may not have yet visited and many other things to do.
First up is the Fêtes Escales festival in Vénissieux (in Lyon’s suburbs, at the end of metro line D), which will take place from July 12th-14th. The festival is a multicultural and intergenerational celebration, with many activities on offer including dance, street art and music concerts.
Theatre on the Saone river
If you’re more into theatre, catch Les Dimanches de l’Île Barbe every Sunday from 7th July until 21st July in Lyon 9.
Situated on the island in the middle of the Saône river, Les Dimanches de l’Île Barbe promise theatrical performances during the day along with music in the evenings.
If you’re in the mood for exploring afar, aside from the ‘Fêtons l’été’ programme, head over to the Atol beach at the Grand Parc Miribel Jonage on 5th and 6th July for the Evasion music festival.

From 17th to 19th July 2019, head to the Crozes-Hermitage Wine Festival for three days of wine tasting.
