After three years under threat of a definitive closure, for lack of money, Museum of Fabrics and decorative arts of Lyon (MTMAD) is now out of danger.
Emmanuel Imberton, President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Lyon Métropole, owner and historical manager of site, announced it, Monday, October 9.
“I decided to choose only solution that I think is possible, both ambitious and realistic.” The collections will be kept in their precious caskets which are two mansions that house museum.
The ICC will yield for a symbolic euro both hotels, classified historical monuments in heart of Lyon (which house collections). The region and state (20% of work) will ensure investment to restore and modernize buildings.
With 2.5 million pieces, oldest of which date from four thousand and five hundred years, museum has one of most important universal collections of textiles.
