An eclectic season begins at the Lyon Auditorium

From Wagner, Berlioz and Haydn to Tom Yorke and Duran-Duran, Lyon’s classical music venue wants to “surprise and innovate”


The Auditorium, Lyon’s symphonic music venue, plays the greatest names in classical music, but also opens up to jazz, electronic music and cinema. The Auditorium follows the tempo of its time this season with concerts dedicated to Brexit or the Festival of Lights. It’s time to subscribe (special discount for students and young people). The season 18/19 begins on September 15.

Located at the foot of the Part-Dieu tower, the Auditorium of Lyon attracts 237,000 spectators each year who come to listen to the Lyon National Orchestra (ONL) and international guest artists.

And the Auditorium offers special subscriptions for young people and students. (60 € to attend all concerts of the 18/19 season for those under 28 years old, or 3 tickets for 15 €).

A special free concert for students at Lyon Auditorium

The 2018-2019 season begins on the weekend of 15-16 September with two special concerts organised as part of the European Heritage Days, followed by Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique on the occasion of the Biennale de la Danse.

A special free concert is also organised on 29 November for students

Throughout the season, the Auditorium is in tune with current events in Lyon and around the world. A special concert will be held on the occasion of the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union.

“It’s a loving approach, with a little humor. It’s about saying goodbye to our British friends, but not so long, not forever,” said Aline Sam-Giao, the concert hall’s director since 2017.

Lyon Auditorium is the home of the International Lyon Orchestra.

After the official date of the UK’s exit from the EU scheduled for March 29, 2019, the National Orchestra of Lyon will give two performances (April 4 and 6) of a concert called “Brexit!”

The 2018-2019 season includes 168 concerts from the great classics to the modern day. During the concerts scheduled for 2018-2019, the Auditorium will pay tribute to classical composers (Berlioz,Haydn…).

The Auditorium also possesses an “eclectic” program from jazz to electronic music. “We have the desire to surprise and innovate, always under the requirement of quality”, aid Aline Sam-Giao.

For the Fête des Lumières (December 6-8) the ONL turns to the music of James Bond films (Monty Norman, John Barry, Bono, Duran Duran…).

The Lyon Auditorium is located at the foot of the Part-Dieu tower.

In 2019, the music venue hosts a Star Wars film concert with a screening of “A New Hope” and “The Empire Stikes Back,” with John Williams’s music played by the ONL.

Electronic music enters the Lyon Auditorium

Among the new features of the 2018-19 season, the Auditorium has created a cycle dedicated to electronic and contemporary music with Olafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm, Max Richter and the Labèque sisters with Tom Yorke (Radiohead).

In March, the Lyon Auditorium will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Arty Farty association, which organizes the Nuits Sonores electronic music festival.

The Auditorium also launches “afterwork” concerts on Fridays at 7pm: an hour of music after work to start the weekend in a friendly atmosphere and discover new musical horizons (only €10, 19oct / 23 Nov / 26 Apr).
